Metro Exterior Superior – Interior Pre-Hung Door Installation Process
At Metro Exterior Superior, we pride ourselves on providing top-quality craftsmanship and exceptional customer service. When it comes to installing pre-hung interior doors, we follow a precise, step-by-step process to ensure that your new door fits perfectly, operates smoothly, and enhances the aesthetic of your home. Below are the key steps we take to ensure the best possible installation:
Step 1: Thorough Preparation
Initial Consultation and Measurements:
Our team begins with a comprehensive consultation to discuss your needs, preferences, and desired door styles.
We take precise measurements of your door opening to ensure the new pre-hung door will fit perfectly.
If needed, we inspect the existing frame or rough opening for any adjustments required before installation.
Removal of Existing Door (if applicable):
If you’re replacing an existing door, our team will carefully remove it, ensuring no damage to surrounding walls, trim, or hardware.
Step 2: Door Frame and Pre-Hung Door Setup
Inspection of Pre-Hung Door:
We carefully inspect the pre-hung door and frame to ensure there is no damage from shipping. We confirm the hinges are placed correctly and the door swings in the desired direction (left or right).
Dry Fit of the Door:
Before securing the door, we perform a dry fit to ensure that the pre-hung door fits snugly into the rough opening.
Our team checks the door for level, plumb, and ensures that it swings freely. If any adjustments are needed (such as trimming the door or frame), we’ll make those prior to installation.
Step 3: Installing the Door Frame
Positioning the Frame:
We position the pre-hung door frame into the rough opening, making sure it’s centered and aligned properly.
Using a level, we check the door frame for vertical and horizontal alignment, ensuring it is perfectly straight.
Shimming the Frame:
We use wood shims to make fine adjustments and ensure the door frame is level and square within the opening. This ensures that the door swings properly without any rubbing or catching.
Securing the Frame:
Once the frame is perfectly aligned, we secure it into place by driving screws through the frame and into the wall studs.
We ensure that the frame is tightly secured but avoid over-tightening to prevent any warping or shifting.
Step 4: Attaching the Door
Attaching the Hinges:
If the door is not already attached, we align the pre-installed hinges with the hinge cutouts in the door frame.
We secure the door to the frame using high-quality screws, ensuring a tight and secure fit.
Ensuring Smooth Operation:
After the door is attached, we test the swing, making sure it opens and closes smoothly without resistance. If there is any rubbing or misalignment, we make adjustments to ensure optimal function.
Step 5: Installing Door Hardware (Handle & Lockset)
Marking and Drilling for Hardware:
Our team measures and marks the ideal placement for the door handle and lockset (usually around 36 inches from the floor).
We carefully drill holes for the handle and latch mechanism, ensuring precise placement for proper operation.
Installing the Handle and Lockset:
After drilling, we install the handle and lockset according to the manufacturer’s specifications.
We ensure that all hardware is securely fastened and operates smoothly, including checking the latch for a proper fit into the strike plate.
Step 6: Final Adjustments and Finishing Touches
Final Fit Check:
After installation, we conduct a final inspection to ensure the door is properly aligned, swings freely, and latches securely.
Our team checks the gap around the door to ensure even spacing (typically 1/8-inch) and that the door closes flush with the frame.
Wood Filler and Finishing:
If there are any gaps or nail holes, we fill them with wood filler and allow it to dry. We then sand it smooth to ensure a seamless finish.
Step 7: Install outside molding.
Step 8: We spray doors and molding flat white
Step 9: Clean-Up and Customer Walkthrough:
Once everything is installed, we thoroughly clean the area, removing any debris or leftover materials.
We conduct a final walkthrough with the customer to ensure satisfaction,Optio answer any questions, and ensure that the door operates to your expectations.
Step 10 : Optional Customization (if applicable)
We can assist with the finishing process or touch-ups to ensure the door matches your interior decor.
